RAB-9 arrested BCL activist Tarekul Islam in a case of organized rape of a housewife while keeping her husband in the dormitory at Sylhet MC College. He is the second defendant in the case. He was arrested in Garma village of Jagdal union in Sunamganj’s Dirai upazila at 6pm on Tuesday.

To protect himself from the RAB, he cut off his long hair and beard and went into hiding. But she did not escape by cutting her hair and beard.

On the basis of secret information, a RAB team led by ASP Abdullah and SI Kajal Dev raided and arrested him Tuesday night at the home of Ali Hossain, son of the late Islam Ali from Garma village in Haor. A RAB team arrived at the Dirai police station at 8 pm with Tarek abducted. They were taken to Sylhet by car from Thana Ghat.

RAB-9 officer ASP Kamruzzaman confirmed the information and said that Tareq was arrested around 7 p.m. Tuesday. The accused will be taken to Sylhet.

The arrested Tareq is the son of Rafiqul Islam of Umednagar Nisarg No. 56 in Sunamganj Township. He is a follower of the Awami League leader Ranjit Sarkar and a BCL activist. RAB has arrested two more people named Ainuddin and Rajan on suspicion of being involved in the incident.
