On this occasion, India and Pakistan are embroiled in a new dispute over the incomparable taste and smell of basmati rice.
The controversy erupted after India asked the European Union to declare basmati rice an ‘Indian product’, the BBC reported.
According to the report, the country has opposed India’s request as rice is also produced in large quantities in Pakistan.
They called on the government to retaliate against the petition, saying that Pakistani traders would be seriously affected if the rice were declared as an Indian product only.
India’s request was published in the official journal of the European Union on September 11.
According to the petition, basmati rice is a unique rice from the Indian subcontinent. In shape it is oblong. This Indian rice is famous all over the world for its unique taste and aroma.
The Indian appeal has raised concerns among Pakistani rice traders and the government.
Basmati rice produced in Pakistan-controlled Kashmir, Baluchistan and Punjab also has a reputation in the European market.
If Delhi is given this label, the country’s traders think the market for Pakistani basmati rice exports to the European Union will collapse.
It has been announced that they will soon file a counter-application against the Indian application with the European Union.
