Armenian President Armen Sargsyan has warned that his country will not allow Turkey to carry out a genocide against the Armenian people again.
The warning came from Yerevan after Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced his support for Baku in Azerbaijan’s border clash with Armenia for control of the Karabakh region.
Armen Sargsyan said in Yerevan on Tuesday that NATO member Turkey had supported Azerbaijan with all its might.
He accused Turkey of inciting Azerbaijan to a “military provocation” against Armenia, saying that the Ottoman regime had once carried out a genocide against the Armenian people 105 years ago, but that it would not be allowed to repeat it.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Monday voiced his support for Azerbaijan and said Ankara would provide any kind of military assistance to Baku if necessary.
During the First World War (1915-1918), Armenia accused the then Ottoman government of carrying out horrible genocides against the Armenian people in the region under its control. The country believes that the Ottoman Empire carried out a premeditated ethnic cleansing campaign against the Armenian people, killing around 1.5 million people. Turkey has denied the allegations.
