The former director general of Bangladesh Television (BTV) and one of the organizers of the liberation war died of a corona infection. Wazed Ali Khan (72).

He died at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Medical University (BMSU) in the capital on Monday (September 26). Wazed Ali Khan’s wife, Rehena Begum, is also receiving treatment at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Medical University.

Wazed Ali Khan Tangail Mirzapur Upazila Bhaora Union Bhaora Sarkar for deceased village. Asmat is the son of Ali Khan. He was the third of five brothers and four sisters. He is survived by a son, a daughter and a wife.

In his working life, Wazed Ali Khan has held a number of important government positions including Managing Director of BTV, Chairman of the Bangladesh Tourism Corporation, Deputy Director of the Prime Minister’s Office, Additional Secretary and Member and Acting Chairman of the Bangladesh Public Service Commission (PSC).

Wazed Ali Khan was admitted to Bangabandhu Sheikh Medical College Hospital last Tuesday (September 22) with corona symptoms. After an examination at the hospital, his body tested positive for corona. At one point, he died while undergoing treatment on Monday. His wife Rehena Begum is also in critical condition in Corona.

He was buried with state honors in the village family cemetery after Janazah prayers at Bhaora School and College in Mirzapur upazila on Monday.

Former deputy and chairman of the district Awami League, Fazlur Rahman Khan Faruk, chairman of the Standing Parliamentary Committee on Road and Bridge Transport, Ekabbar Hossain, MP, Upazila Parishad, President Mir Enayet Hossain Montu, Upazila Nirbahi, Officer Md. Abdul Malek, former commander of the Upazila Muktijoddha Command, Professor Durlabh Biswas has expressed his deep sorrow.
