Kanaighat (SI) Police Deputy Inspector Swapan Chandra Sarkar said he was arrested in the Haripur area of Jaintapur around 11:30 pm on Monday.
Mahfuz is the son of Salik Ahmed, a resident of Lama Dalaikandi village in South Banigram UP of Kanaighat.
Seven people, including the main defendant, were arrested in the incident.
Shahparan Police Station OC Abdul Qayyum Chowdhury said seven people have so far been arrested in connection with the rape of a housewife in the MC College dormitory.
“Three of them have been in preventive detention for five days. The rest will be taken to court on Tuesday.”

At around 9:30 pm on Friday, some BCL activists picked up the girlfriend from campus and raped her at MC College in the Tilagarh area.
The victim’s husband filed a case against nine people at the Shahparan police station on Saturday morning, making Chhatra League activist Saifur Rahman the main defendant.
The defendants in the case are MC College BCL activist Saifur Rahman, Shah Mahbubur Rahman Rony, Mahfuzur Rahman Mashum, Arjun Laskar and foreign BCL activists Rabiul and Tareq Ahmed. He also charged three unidentified people.
On Monday, the court referred Saifur Rahman, Arjun Lashkar and Rabiul Islam, the main defendants in the case, for five days for questioning.
Sylhet Metropolitan Magistrate Second court judge Saifur Rahman granted them pretrial detention, said Deputy Police Commissioner Amulya Kumar Chowdhury.
He said that when Saifur Rahman and Arjun Lashkar appeared in court around 12 noon, the court granted them a preventive detention of five days each. Later, at 3 pm, another defendant in the Rabiul Islam case was brought before the court.
The court granted pre-trial detention for five days after the investigating officer on the case, Shahparan Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Indranil Bhattacharya, requested pre-trial detention for seven days each.
The state’s attorney, Khokon Kumar Dutt, confirmed that there was no attorney for the defendants in court.
The main defendant in the case, Saifur Rahman, was arrested in Chhatak upazila of Sunamganj district on Sunday morning. Arjun Laskar was also arrested in Mantala in Madhabpur upazila de Habiganj.
Habiganj Shayestaganj Shah said. The RAB arrested Mahbubur Rahman Rony. The police arrested Rabiul Islam from Nabiganj.
The RAB also arrested two more people named Rajan Mia and Ainuddin in connection with the gang rape; Whose names are not mentioned in the statement of the case.
