DHAKA: The Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU) has opened the bank accounts of the online shopping site Evalid.com.bd, including its Chairman Shamima Nasrin and Managing Director (MD) Mohammad Russell.
A responsible source at the Bank of Bangladesh said on Monday (September 28) that the order to suspend Evali’s bank account, including the president and CEO, had not been extended.
As a result, the bank accounts of the interested persons were opened as before.
The sources said that the information received from the banks about Evali has been turned over to intelligence agencies. The matter will now be investigated by the intelligence agency.
Previously, on August 27 this year, letters were sent to all banks and financial institutions operating in the country, suspending Evali’s bank accounts, including the president and CEO, and requesting information on the transaction within the Three working days. The letter also mentioned the number of the national identity card along with the names of Evali’s president and CEO.
The BFIU took the initiative to verify the bank accounts of the company’s president and CEO following the widespread allegations against Evali.
The company has been accused of taking money from customers with unusual cash-back offers and delivering products after a long time.
