Regent Hospital President Shahed Karim has been sentenced to life in prison by a court in a case brought under the Gun Control Act. He was also sentenced to seven years in prison for shooting. The two orders will go into effect together.
The verdict was announced by Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge KM Imrul Kayesh at 2pm on Monday. Shortly after the verdict was announced, Shahed was transferred from court to jail in a prison van.

Hours earlier, Shahed was brought before the court from jail on the verdict of the case. At the time, Saheed was handcuffed, wearing a bulletproof jacket and a helmet.
On July 15, the RAB arrested Shahed from the Komarpur border area in Debhata upazila of Satkhira. Then, on July 19, police from the Detective Division (DB) carried out a night operation with Shahed. During the operation a personal car, an illegal weapon and 15 bottles of liquor were recovered. The police brought a case against Saheed under the Gun Act and the Special Powers Act at the Uttara West Police Station. Today the case of that arms law has been decided.
Furthermore, there is another case against him at the Debhata Police Station in Satkhira for illegal possession of weapons.
