Dhaka: The parliamentary committee recommended increasing the monthly fees of the heroic freedom fighters by another 8,000 Tk to a total of 20,000 Tk. The recommendation was made at the thirteenth meeting of the Standing Committee of the Liberation War Ministry of the Eleventh National Assembly on Sunday (September 28).
The meeting was held at the Sangsad Bhaban under the chairmanship of the committee chairman, Shahjahan Khan. Members of the committee, the Minister of Liberation War Affairs, AQM Mozammel Haque, Kazi Firoz Rashid and the Muslim Uddin Ahmed attended the meeting.
After reviewing the honors received by the heroic freedom fighters at the meeting, the committee found it insufficient. In order for freedom fighters to live a more prosperous life, it is recommended to increase their monthly fees by 8,000 Tk to a total of 20,000 Tk.
At this meeting, it was decided to deliver a letter signed by the secretary on the use of the word ‘Bir’ before the names of freedom fighters in all organizations where freedom fighters have contact with the Bank of Bangladesh.
A three-member investigative committee with Shajahan Khan as coordinator and Kazi Firoz Rashid and Muslem Uddin Ahmed as members was formed to verify the allegations in light of several written complaints to the parliamentary committee against some activities of the Muktijoddha Welfare Fund.
It was reported at the meeting that the National Council of Freedom Fighters (Jamuka) canceled the registration of some land grabbing organizations in the name of the liberation war as they were involved in various irregularities and corruption.
As the heroic freedom fighters are the ‘best children’ in the nation, it was decided to name the roads in their respective areas in honor of the heroic freedom fighters to keep the children of the sun forever in history.
There is a published definition to identify heroic freedom fighters. At the next meeting it was decided to discuss in more detail whether it is necessary to add or subtract more words in this definition.
The meeting was attended by the Secretary of the Ministry of the War of Liberation, the heads of various agencies and interested officials of the Ministry and the Secretariat of Jatiya Sangsad.
