Gang Rape at MC College: 2 More Defendants Arrested

The leader of the Chhatra League, Mahbubur Rahman Rony, 26, and Rabiul Islam, 5, were arrested in connection with the gang rape of his wife in the dormitory of MC College in Sylhet. A total of four people have been arrested in the case.

The RAB arrested Mahbubur Rahman Rony of Shayestaganj on Sunday night. The police arrested Rabiul Islam from Nabiganj in Habiganj.

Habiganj Police Superintendent Mohammad Ali confirmed to Jugantar that Rabiul Islam, the fifth defendant in the gang rape case of a housewife for keeping her husband in the dormitory of MC College in Sylhet, was arrested at 9:30 pm on Sunday.

The other two detainees in the case are lead defendant Saifur Rahman and fourth defendant Arjun Laskar.

Saifur Rahman, the main defendant in the case, was arrested at Noarai Kheyaghat in the Chhatak upazila border area in Sunamganj around 8 am on Sunday. In addition, the Sylhet district police arrested Arjun Laskar, son of Kanu Laskar from Atgram in Zakiganj, from the Mantala border area in Madhabpur upazila of Habiganj.

Last Friday, a housewife was gang-raped while walking with her husband at MC College. Chhatra League leaders and activists forcibly took her husband’s housewife and raped her in the bedroom around 8:30 pm. At that time, two people detained her husband in front of the university.

The victim’s husband has filed a case at the Shahparan Police Station. In the case, 3 leaders and activists of the Chhatra League and 3 others have been charged.

The other defendants in the case are Tarekul Islam Tareq (28), son of Rafiqul Islam of Umednagar of Sunamganj Sadar Upazila, Maryland of Bagunipara of Habiganj Sadar. Jahangir Miah’s son, Shah Mohammad. Mahbubur Rahman Rony (25), Arjun Laskar (25), son of Kanu Laskar from Atgram in Zakiganj, Rabiul Islam (25) from Barangadipur (Jagdal) village of Dirai upazila and Mahfuzur Rahman Masum (25) from Gachbari village of Kanaighat.

Although Tareq and Arjun are not students, they are all supporters of MC College’s BCL leader and former sports and youth secretary of Sylhet District Awami League defender Ranjit Sarkar.
