How Saudi Migrant Workers Can Extend Their Visas

Migrants have been confused about the process of extending the visa of Saudi migrant workers in Bangladesh from the beginning.

Migrant workers gathered outside the Saudi Arabian embassy in Dhaka’s Gulshan on Sunday morning. Most of these workers ask how their visas and Akama will be renewed when they expire.

Many migrant workers stranded in Bangladesh are in dire straits as regular flights between Saudi Arabia and Bangladesh have been disrupted due to the coronavirus epidemic.

Expatriate workers have been protesting outside the Saudi Airlines office in Karwanbazar for a week demanding airline tickets to Saudi Arabia. The protests by expatriate workers continued even today.

However, the Saudi embassy in Gulshan informed the workers that the embassy would contact the authorized agency to resolve the issue of the visa extension.

Many of the workers who had been protesting in front of the Saudi Airlines office and embassy returned to Bangladesh after the coronavirus outbreak. Now they face complications to return to Saudi Arabia.

Many of the protesting workers in the caravan market have expired visas, but are facing difficulties in obtaining tickets under the conditions imposed by Saudi Airlines to prevent coronavirus. As a result, suspicions have been raised about his trip to Saudi Arabia.

Then the Saudi authorities give some instructions such as quarantine the time before the flight, perform the covid test from the designated health center of the embassy, complete the form prescribed by the Saudi health authority before the flight, download the specific application and record the information within the specified time of landing in Saudi Arabia.

How to extend the validity of the visa
Last Wednesday, the Bangladeshi Foreign Minister said that Saudi Arabian authorities had officially informed Bangladesh about the visa extension and the validity of Akama for Bangladeshis coming from Saudi Arabia on vacation.

At the time, he said that the Saudi authorities would begin work to extend visas and akamas starting Sunday (September 26). However, it was not disclosed in detail how these activities will be carried out.

The workers assembled in front of the Saudi embassy on Sunday morning were given a list of approved agencies, and the assembled workers were asked to contact those agencies to extend their visas.

MA Barry, manager of Middle East Consultancy, one of those approved agencies, said they had not received any “new” instructions from the Saudi embassy on visa renewal.

“We are waiting for the embassy to make an official announcement. So far we have not been informed of any new rules,” Barry said.

“They have not yet said with certainty if the coronavirus will be waived or if the visa will be renewed in the same way as before.”

Barry said the old way to return to Saudi Arabia for the holidays was to present three documents.

“The original copy of the official letter from the sponsor or employer in Saudi Arabia, certified by the chamber and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Saudi Arabia, a copy of the travel permit (Saudi passport office) and a photocopy of the Ekama were required under the old rules, “said MA Bari, Middle East Consulting manager.

“If someone else’s license expires in seven months, that is, seven months and one day after leaving Saudi Arabia, it will be possible to renew the visa again if you can bring the re-entry extension visa number from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Saudi Arabia”.

In this case, the expatriate worker must apply for a visa extension online and the intervention of his sponsor is required.

“If Kafil contacts the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and says that one of his workers wants to extend his visa and wants to give that worker a chance, then the Ministry of Foreign Affairs generally accepts the request.”

The State Department then submitted a reentry extension number online, which is generally known within a week or two, MA Barry said.
