In Gopalpur upazila of Tangail, a girlfriend has been accused of committing suicide by insulting her husband for not allowing him to study. The deceased was identified as Iti (18).
The incident took place in the Hadira village of the Hadira union on Saturday afternoon.
The deceased was identified as Hadira, wife of Al Amin Miah, a businessman from Dakshinpara village.
Sabur Hossain, a member of Local UP, said Al Amin married Iti five months ago. Iti was Al Amin’s second wife. Three years ago, Al Amin married Selina, the daughter of Muttalib Miah from the same village.
Selina’s father, Muttalib Hossain, said that Al Amin and his family often beat Selina for giving birth to a daughter. Unable to bear the torture, Selina moved into her father’s house with her youngest daughter. The latter is divorced.
Neighbor Hasina Begum said that five months ago, Al Amin took the dowry and married Iti, daughter of Dulal Miah from Jhawail village, for the second time.
Dilal Mia, father of the late Iti, said Iti was a deserving student. Al-Amin did not allow him to take the HSC exam even after completing the form the last time. The girl had taken a deposit to go to college. For this, he was often mentally and physically tortured.
Iti told her father by phone that she was tortured as soon as she finished her studies on Saturday afternoon. Unable to bear the torture, Iti committed suicide. Then she demanded justice.
Meanwhile, her husband Al Amin said that Iti was an arrogant girl. Small talk has led to such a catastrophic incident.
Gopalpur OC Police Station (Investigation) Kaiyum Siddiqui said the girlfriend may have committed suicide due to a family dispute. Legal action will be taken subject to investigation.
