Another schoolgirl reportedly committed suicide in Chapainawabganj without having been tried for rape. Asifa Khatun, 13, a fifth grader in the municipal area, was poisoned last Friday morning. That same afternoon he died at the Chapainawabganj Adhunik Sadar hospital. At the beginning of September 1, a schoolgirl named Samia Khatun Sammi committed suicide in Rahanpur of Gomstapur upazila of Chapainawabganj without being tried for rape.
According to Asif’s family, his cousin Abdul Basir entered the house a few days ago and raped Asifa. At that moment, Asifa’s mother, Rubia Khatun, closed the door of the house with her daughter’s cry. Later, Basir’s father, Tahidul, freed his son with the promise of marriage. Matiur Rahman Mutton Mia, District Councilor for Chapainawabganj Township No. 4, held an arbitration meeting on Wednesday. In Basir’s absence, the family of the accused was fined 72,000 taka. Later, the councilor handed 75,000 rupees to the victim’s family.
Rumi Begum, the elder sister of the late Asifa, said: ‘Asifa Saf informed the referee that she could not accept the settlement of the rape for Tk 72,000. At that moment, Asifa said in the presence of everyone, I was raped by Basir. I will marry him, I will not accept money.
Asifa’s fiancee Rina Begum and her mother Rubia said: ‘Asifa used to say that after being tortured, I would kill myself if I couldn’t marry Basir. And that’s what he did. ‘
An attempt was made to contact Councilman Matiur Rahman Mutton Miah by phone, but no response was received. The defendant Basir’s father, Tahidul Islam, also did not receive the call.
