The court sent National Film Award-winning music director Shawkat Ali Emon to jail in a case brought under the Prevention of Abuse of Women and Children Act brought by his wife Hridita Raza. Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Shahinur Rahman issued the order on Saturday.
Omedar Mohammad Sarwar of the court’s general registration branch told NTV Online that Ramna (SI) Police Station Deputy Inspector Tahmina Akhter produced Trina’s Music Director Emon at the Metropolitan Magistrates Court of Dhaka on Saturday. After the hearing, the judge ordered that he be sent to jail.
On Friday night, Ramna police arrested Shawkat Ali Emon at his home in Eskaton.
On September 20, Emon’s wife, Hridita Reza, filed a case against Emon at the Ramna Police Station under Section 11 (c) of the Prevention of Abuse of Women and Children Act. The case alleges torture for demanding a dowry of Tk 10 lakh. Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Ramna Zone Assistant Police Commissioner (AC) Sheikh Mohammad Shamim told NTV Online last night.
Sheikh Mohammad Shamim said: “On September 20, Hridita Reza filed a case against Shawkat Ali Emon under the Prevention of Abuse of Women and Children Act at Ramna Police Station. In the case, Hridita accused Emon of torturing her to demand a dowry of 10 lakh Tk. Emon was arrested in that case.
Shawkat Ali Emon married Hridita Reza on February 28 of this year. This is your third marriage. He divorced his first wife, actress Bijri Barkatullah, and married Jinat Kabir on December 6, 2012.
