He told reporters after inaugurating the office of the Police Deputy Commissioner of the Traffic Department in Mirpur in the capital on Saturday morning.
The Dhaka Police Commissioner said: “We have examined the suspects for drugs. Of these, 26 members tested positive. The process of firing these 26 people has begun ”.
“We believe that taking action against them in this way will send a clear message to the rest that we are not giving concessions to anyone,” he said.
Shafiqul Islam said that the initiative of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police has improved many people and they have returned from this path.
“And all those police officers who are involved in drugs or are cooperating with drug traffickers without deviating from the path are being directly arrested with the cases against them.”
Stating that no action was being taken, he said: “Action is being taken against a police officer involved in drugs in the same way that action is being taken against a common drug trafficker.”
Dhaka Metropolitan Police Additional Commissioner (CTTC) Mohammad Monirul Islam, Additional Commissioner (Administration) Mir Rezaul Alam and Additional Commissioner (Intelligence) KM Hafeez Akter were present at the occasion.
