A young woman who had been abandoned by her husband from Dhaka was called to Gobindganj in Gaibandha on the pretext of marriage. Then her boyfriend raped her. After raping herself, she handed her girlfriend over to local youths. Later, she fled to the police station and took refuge. Police arrested four young men accused of gang rape.
According to police and sources in the complaint, the 20-year-old girl was introduced to Shahadat Hossain, 20, the son of Anwarul Islam from Chasakpara village in Gobindaganj municipality of Gaibandha while working in a factory in Dhaka. The girl’s home is in Chowk Harirampur village of Faridpur district. According to her identity, Shahadat often spoke with the girl on her mobile phone. At one point last month, Shahadat asked him to go to Gobindganj. The girl came to Gobindganj with one of her girlfriends and left. Later, the relationship with Shahadat on the mobile phone deepened. In this situation, when Bakhate Shahadat asked her to go to Gobindganj, she arrived in Gobindganj around 7pm on Wednesday.
Shahadat raped her at a local hotel at night. The next day, she handed the girl over to some young men. They locked her up in a house in ward 1 of the Gobindaganj municipality and raped her in turn. After being detained for two days, the girl escaped from the house on Friday and arrived at the Gobindaganj police station with the help of people. At that time, she filed a written complaint with the police station.
Based on the allegations, several police teams raided different locations and arrested four young men accused of being involved in organized rape.
Those arrested are Shahadat Hossain, 20, son of Anwarul Islam from Chasakpara village, Zahurul Sarkar, 28, son of Rahman Sarkar from Nachai Kochai village of Fulbari union and A. from Boalia (Nayapara) village of the municipality. Hamid’s son Jahangir Mia, 35, and Zahid Hasan, 26, son of the late Yunus Ali from Thanapara village (Kasaipara).
The Officer-in-Charge (CO) of the Gobindganj Police Station, AKM Mehedi Hasan, confirmed the matter and said that a case had been brought against the defendants under the Abuse of Women and Children Act. The operation continues to catch the other defendants.
