Defendants in MC College dorm rape case

Among the six defendants in the case brought in connection with the Murarichand College dormitory rape case in Sylhet, one is a current student at the university, three are former students and the other two are outsiders, authorities said. University.

The accused are Saifur Rahman (26), Shah Mahbubur Rahman Rony (25), Arjun Lankar (25), Mahfuzur Rahman Masum (25), Rabiul Islam (25) and Tarekul Islam (26).

Shah Mahbubur Rahman is a graduate student in Rony College’s English department and a lawful resident student from the university’s dormitory, university authorities said.

The rest are Saifur Rahman, Arjun Laskar and Mahfuzur Rahman, former students of Masum College and Rabiul Islam and Tarekul Islam are outsiders.

Authorities also announced the closure of the university dormitory when the university closed last March due to a coronavirus epidemic. However, some students are given verbal permission to stay in the dorm due to tuition or work.

After yesterday’s incident, the dorm keeper Jamal Uddin ordered the dorm to be vacated before 12 noon on Saturday. Students from different dormitory blocks left the dormitory at noon.

After the emergency meeting of the university’s academic council this afternoon, the principal of the university, Saleh Ahmed, told The Daily Star: The two guards in charge of security in the dormitory were also fired.

A pistol, four sharp weapons and several iron bars were recovered from the caretaker’s bungalow in the possession of the defendant Saifur Rahman during a search of the university dormitory in the evening after the incident.

Shah Paran Police have filed a separate weapons case against Saifur Rahman.

The head of the university, Saleh Ahmed, said: ‘The caretaker’s bungalow is in ruins and he does not live here. They have seized this opportunity. Previously, they were evicted from their bungalows and disconnected. But after Eid-ul-Adha, they went back to the bungalow and stayed there until late at night.

He said, ‘I’m ashamed, ashamed. In the coronavirus situation, all the university professors were taking online classes at home. In this situation, it was difficult to properly monitor the bedroom. Further action will be taken as recommended by the investigation committee formed now.

Current and former university students staged a protest blocking the street in front of the university’s main gate around 1:00 pm today.

The protest, which lasted about an hour, was canceled after guarantees from the director and the police.
