Sylhet: The school authorities have formed a three-member committee on the gang rape incident of a woman in the dormitory of Murari Chand (MC) College in Sylhet.
On Saturday (September 26), two shelter superintendents were added to the committee headed by Anwar Hossain Chowdhury, head of the math department.
The committee has been asked to investigate the incident and report within the next week.
Professor Saleh Ahmed, head of MC College, confirmed the information to banglanews and said that committee members will investigate the issue of the students’ placement in the dormitory. Except for one person involved in the gang rape, the rest are outsiders. As for the current student, we will recommend that the National University cancel their scholarship. In addition, the police will take action against the accused. In this case, the university authorities will cooperate as much as possible.
On Friday (September 25), six BCL leaders and activists allegedly raped a woman while her husband was detained in the MC College dormitory. Upon receiving the news, police rescued the couple from the bedroom at around 10:30 pm. The raped girl was later admitted to the OCC center of the Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital.
According to police and local sources, the newlyweds went to MC College in a private car on Friday afternoon. In the afternoon, six MC College BCL leaders and activists grabbed the husbands and took them to the dormitory and beat them first. He later gang raped his wife while holding her husband captive. Each of the BCL leaders lives in the dormitory. They are followers of the leader of the Awami League, Advocate Ranjit Sarkar Group, based in Tilagarh.
The rapist’s husband presented the case at the city’s Shahparan Police Station on Saturday morning, naming six people and charging two-thirds of the others. Deputy Inspector (SI) Milton Sarkar from Shahparan Police Station also presented another case in connection with the seizure of weapons. He filed a case (No. 22 (9) 2020) charging Chhatra League cadre Saifur Rahman.
Abdul Qayyum, Officer-in-Charge (CO) of Sylhet Metropolitan Shahparan Police Station, said that a pipe gun, four Ramdas and a knife, two iron pipes, more and other items were seized from Saifur Rahman’s room in the bedroom on Saturday morning.
Meanwhile, Sylhet Police Commissioner Murari Chand (MC) College visited the scene of the gang rape. Golam Kibria, BPM. He visited the university dormitory at the site on Saturday afternoon.
