Meanwhile, locals said that after receiving the news in the evening, several leaders of the Awami League and some former leaders of the Chhatra League from the Tilagarh area arrived at the scene. At first, some local leaders of the Awami League tried to cover up the incident. They also tried to reach a compromise. Police also initially avoided the incident to the media. The defendants were able to cover their bodies due to long delays in trying to cover up. However, when the matter came to light later, the leaders of the Awami League withdrew from the mischievous attempt to cover it up.

According to police and local sources, the newlyweds went to MC College in a private car on Friday afternoon. In the afternoon, six leaders and activists from the MC College Chhatra League grabbed the husbands and took them to the bedroom and beat them first. He later gang raped his wife while holding her husband captive. Each of the BCL leaders and activists lives in the bedroom. They are known to be leaders and activists of the Tilagarh-based Ranjit Group.

Kaiyum Chowdhury, OC of Shah Paran Police Station in Sylhet, denied the accusation of trying to compromise. The raped woman was later admitted to the OCC center at Osmani Hospital. The operation continues to arrest those involved in the incident.
