People rescued the leader of the Awami League from a woman’s home in Ulipur of Kurigram at midnight. At that time, he was accused of having an extramarital affair with the woman and of participating in immoral activities. Later, the locals handed him over to the police. The name of the accused leader is Mukul Mandal. He is the General Secretary of the Awami League in Ulipur Township District 2 and son of Abdul Wahab from East Naodanga Village.

According to local sources, Mukul Mandal had an illicit affair with the wife of a bricklayer who worked in the Miapara village of Dhaka in Daldalia, a union of the Upazila for a long time. Mukul used to travel freely in that house showing his power. Ignoring the heavy rain on Wednesday night, Mukul Mandal entered the woman’s home and caught the attention of the locals. Then they got organized and went to that house. At that moment, Mukul broke the fence of the house and fell into a pond while fleeing.

At that time, the locals arrested him and reported the illegal activities to the police. The police rescued him from the scene and admitted him to the Upazila Health Complex. Mukul was taken to the police station on Thursday morning and later sent to Kurigram prison.

Nur Alam, president of the Awami League, Municipality District No. 2, confirmed the matter and said: “I will inform the president-secretary of the municipal Awami League to take the necessary measures in this regard.”

Ulipur Municipal Awami League Chairman Jahangir Alam said: “I have heard the matter. Necessary steps will be taken to uncover the real facts through investigation.”

Ulipur OC Moazzem Hossain Police Station admitted the incident and said that since no one had brought a case, he was sent to jail under Section 151.
