Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has sought the support of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan for internal Palestinian solidarity efforts and electoral planning.
The Palestinian Wafa news agency says Mahmoud Abbas spoke by phone with the Turkish president on Monday night. He also briefed Erdogan on recent electoral talks with Hamas, the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement and Fatah, a secular Palestinian party.
They also discussed the pressure from the US administration on the Palestinians and elsewhere. During the telephone conversation, Mahmoud Abbas asked the Turkish president to send observers to the Palestinian elections to help with the electoral process.
Earlier this month, the Palestinian political parties reached an agreement to end internal divisions. They also agreed on the principle of the peaceful transfer of power through free and fair elections. Middle East Monitor and Al Jazeera
