More than 600 houses in two villages were destroyed in a five-minute storm in Naogaon’s Atrai upazila. Four people, including two children, were injured in the incident. The cyclone struck the village of Jagdash at the Panchupur junction of the village of upazila and Islamgati at the adjoining Bisha junction around 7:30 pm on Tuesday. According to local sources, a strong cyclone arrived from the north around 7.30pm on Tuesday and devastated the town of Jagdash in Panchupur Union and the neighboring town of Islamgati. The storm lasted about 5 minutes. As a result, more than six hundred houses in two villages were destroyed. Furthermore, the power supply has been cut since the incident due to the uprooting of several power poles.
Meanwhile, the road connection from Atrai to Singra was cut off due to falling trees on the road. Subsequently, a unit from the Upazila Fire Service went to the scene, removed the trees and normalized communication.
Two other children, including Alimuddin (28) and Jalal Uddin (60) from Jagdas village, were injured in the incident. The injured were treated locally.
Atrai Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) said. Sanaul Islam told Kaler Kantha that the storm destroyed more than 600 houses in two villages. A list of victims is being prepared by inspecting the scene. Tin sheds, in particular, have been the most damaged. Dry food and relief rice are already being distributed to the victims.
