An infamous drug dealer sentenced to death has escaped from an Indonesian prison by digging a tunnel. This is the second time he has escaped from jail. He escaped from a prison near the capital Jakarta on September 17 by digging a 30-meter-long tunnel. Authorities at Tangerang Prison in Jakarta were shocked by the case of the Chinese drug trafficker named Kai Ji Fan.
According to the police, Kai Ji Fan was caught smuggling 110 kg of methamphetamine in 2016. The court sentenced him to death. He’s been in that Jakarta jail ever since. From there, Kai dug a 30-meter tunnel and fled. The tunnel ended in a flooded ditch.
According to the Tangerang Police Chief, Kai Ji escaped from jail for the second time. This time he also tried to take other fellow prisoners with him. But they refused to accompany.
Prison authorities said they recovered a shovel, a chisel and a screwdriver. Kai Ji is believed to have dug the tunnel using those instruments.
Kai escaped by digging the bathroom floor in 2016 while in police custody. However, he was captured in East Java three days after his escape. At that moment, Kai poked a hole in the bathroom wall with a rod.
