A Dhaka University (DU) student brought a case against Nurul Haque Nur, former Daksh Vice President, at the Lalbagh Police Station in the capital, charged with complicity in rape. The news was published in different media in the country. Various media outlets have reported that VP Noor has been directly accused of rape. But it is clear from the statement of the case that there was no rape case against Vice President Noor.

The BD Fact Check said that the news was not correct when publishing the links of the relevant news of various media outlets in the country, including the image of the story of the case. It is said that no case has been brought against Nur for rape. Hassan al-Mamun, leader of the quota reform movement, has been charged with “marriage rape”. It has been alleged that Hasan failed to seek justice from Noor and pressured the victim to cover up the incident in various ways. However, the majority of the media has left the issue of the lead defendant behind and misleadingly reported that a “rape case” has been brought against Noor.

The plaintiff in the case said: ‘When defendant No. 3 Nurul Haque Nur was verbally informed about this on 6/20/2020 without seeing Upayantar, he said that the defendant (Mamun) is my adviser, my comrade in arms. I’ll make an arrangement by sitting with him. Then he came to meet me in Nilkhet on 07/24/2020 with the assurance of reconciliation. But then he forbade me to go too far on this matter, avoiding the security of a deal. And if I go too far, they will post the opposite of my name with their fans. And they’ll promote me as a prostitute to their 1.2 million-member group of the Student Rights Council. “All my respect will go away in one of their lives,” she added. Meanwhile, Saiful Islam, the fourth defendant in the case, used the fifth and sixth defendants to spread slander on my behalf in the chat group (messenger) and humiliated me in various ways with my character. Almost all the leaders and activists of the Student Rights Council are aware of these incidents. Although some of them wanted to work to find a suitable solution to the problem, I learned that the defendants called them various conspirators.

Incidentally, a student from Dhaka University (DU) presented the case at Lalbagh Police Station on Sunday evening. A total of 8 people have been charged in the case. Among them, Nurul Haque Nur has been mentioned as an accessory to the rape. Hasan Al Mamun, coordinator of the Bangladesh Student Rights Council, has become the main defendant in the case. Hasan Al Mamun’s house on Nawabganj Bara Masjid Road of the Lalbagh Police Station has been mentioned as the place of the rape. The applicant student lives in DU’s Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib Hall.

The following day, Monday night, 21 September, Nur was arrested during a protest against the “harassment case”. At night, Vice President Noor and his associates marched from Shahbag to Matsya Bhaban in protest of the rape case. When they obstructed the work of the police, six people, including Nurul Haque Nur, were arrested in the Matsya Bhaban area.
