Dhaka: Former Vice President (VP) of the Central Student Parliament (Daksu) of Dhaka University, Nurul Haque Nur, has been released on bail after being detained in the Matsya Bhawan area of the capital. In an immediate response, Nur said: “We do not understand why we were arrested and why we were released.”
Police in riot gear stormed a demonstration on Monday (September 21), taking out hundreds of protesters by truck. He was later taken into the custody of the Metropolitan Detective Police (DB).
Nur was reportedly released an hour after his arrest, but was transferred to the Dhaka Medical College (DMC) hospital for treatment.
DB cops took him away again after the initial medical examination. Later, Nur was released from the DB office on Mintu Road in the capital at around 1:15 pm.
DB Ramna (DC) Division Deputy Commissioner HM Azimul Haque said that all the detainees, including Nur, have been released.
Nur’s older brother, Nurzaman, told banglanews that Nur was taken to his home in Uttar Badda from the DB office. The condition of the body is not much better. You will be taken back to the hospital if necessary.
Meanwhile, in an immediate response after leaving the DB office at night, Nurul Haque Nur said: “We have been attacked.” Many have become ill as a result of the beatings. Later we were released on bail. We do not know why he was arrested or released.
He said that no one has similarity to any part of the state apparatus, there is no similarity at work. So they kill one, arrest another, and release another.
The fact that we were beaten today, we are not criminals. We were peacefully ending the movement. But the police attacked without provocation. In fact, we did not understand why they arrested us and why they released us.
A Dhaka University student filed a case at the capital’s Lalbagh Police Station on Sunday night (September 20) alleging rape. Although one person (Hasan Al-Mamun) was charged with rape in the case, eight people, including Vice President Noor, have been charged.
The other defendants in the case are Hasan Al-Mamun (18), Nazmul Hasan Sohag (18), Saiful Islam (18), Nazmul Huda (25) and Abdullah Hill Kafi (23).
