VP Noor arrested in protest procession

Dhaka: Police arrested Nurul Haque Nur, former Vice President (VP) of the Central Student Parliament (Daksu) of Dhaka University, in a case of complicity in a rape case brought by a student at the Lalbagh Police Station in the capital . Nur and six other people were arrested during a protest in front of the Matsya Bhaban.

Ramna police arrested him during a protest in Shahbag on Monday (September 21) evening. Sajjadur Rahman, deputy commissioner of DMP’s Ramna division, confirmed the matter to banglanews.

Walid Hossain, deputy commissioner of DMP’s media and public relations department, told banglanews that some people, including Nur, were protesting in front of the Matsya Bhaban. When they obstructed the procession, they attacked the police. Meanwhile, seven people, including Vice President Noor, have been arrested. There is a case against Noor at the Lalbagh police station for assisting in the rape and he has also been arrested for attacking the police.

Earlier Monday, a Dhaka University student filed a case with the Lalbagh Police Station accusing six people, including Vice President Nurul Haque Nur, of rape.

The other defendants in the case are Hasan Al-Mamun (18), Nazmul Hasan Sohag (18), Saiful Islam (18), Nazmul Huda (25) and Abdullah Hill Kafi (23).
