Dhaka: Although there has been some relief in wholesaling in the volatile onion market of the last few days, retail is not going to slow down. Another point is that the wholesale price has dropped after the previous LC onions entered the country market.
But the excuses in the retail market are endless. So it is sold at the extra price above.
This image can be seen in different markets of the capital on Monday (September 21).
In Shyambazar, the capital’s largest wholesale market, a kilo of national royal onion sells for 75 to 80 rupees, which was sold two days ago at 62 to 75 rupees per kg. Imported LC onions are sold at Rs 50 per kg, up from Rs 58-60 per kg two days ago.
Meanwhile, in the Karwan Bazar wholesale market, 75 to 80 taka is sold per kg of domestic onion. And imported LC onions sell for Rs 52-55 per kg.
However, the price of onion has fallen in the wholesale market but not in the retail market, where it is sold at the old price. In the markets of Shantinagar, Segundobagicha, Khilgaon, Motijheel T&T, onions are sold between 90 and 95 kg per kg. In some stores, large onions are required at Rs 100 per kg. Imported LC onions are sold in these markets at a price of 60 to 65 taka per kg.
Montu, a retailer in the Khilgaon market, said: “We have onions bought at the old price, so they are sold at that price.” Imported onions come, their prices are not very high.
Shyam Bazar, onion importer and owner of New Almas Traders. Amjad Ali said that the price has dropped a lot today compared to two days ago. Many onions have rotted. Otherwise it could have been reduced. However, the price of onion will drop even further.
