After the death of Allama Shah Ahmad Shafi, a veteran scholar of the country, discussions have started in various quarters about who will be the Emir of Hefazat-e-Islam Bangladesh. Who is the emir of custody after the death of Allama Shafi? Today thousands of people are curious to know the answer to this question. There are various speculations within the organization as to whether Amir de Hifazat will be chosen from Chittagong or from the capital, Dhaka. Due to the death of Allama Shafi at the same time, the position of Chairman of the Board of Qaumi Madrasa and Chairman of the higher regulatory body ‘Al-Hayatul Ulaya Lil-Jamiatil Qaumiya Bangladesh’ is also changing.

All eyes are now on these important institutions and committees. Some say that Maulana Muhibullah Babungari is the current senior vice president, while others say that Hifazat’s loudest activities were in the central areas of Chittagong and Dhaka. Hefazat’s central vice president, Maulana Tajul Islam, and Jamiat’s leader, Mufti Mohammad Waqqas, are also in the discussion. However, concerned people think that the organization’s current general secretary Maulana Junaid Babungari Hefazat may be elected as the organization’s new emir on the council.

It is known that Allama Shah Ahmad Shafi was universally respected. His death has caused irreparable damage to the country and a huge void. Mufti Abdus Salam, Maulana Sheikh Ahmad Sahib Amela was formed in a three-member assembly. At the same meeting, Allama Junaid Babungari, the general secretary of Hefazat-e-Islam, was appointed secretary of Shaikhul Hadith and Nayem Talimat or education. Maulana Hafeez Shoaib has also been appointed Assistant Director of Education. A committee is known to have been formed to investigate the vandalism of the madrasa during the upheaval. As for who will be the next Emir of Hifazat-e-Islam, Allama Junaid Babungari, Secretary General of Hifazat-e-Islam said: “Allah Ta’ala knows who will be the next Emir of Hifazat-e-Islam. But we will try to implement his (Allama Shafi) ideal. The same is the case with Hathazari Madrasa and Hefazat-e-Islam. People like Allama Shah Ahmad Shafi will no longer be found. Now my responsibility is to call the council. The council’s decision will be final ”.

It is worth mentioning that Allama Shah Ahmad Shafi, General Director of Hathazari Madrasa, formed Hefazat-e-Islam, the largest non-political organization of Qaumi Gharana, in Chittagong on January 19, 2010. He was able to bring together all political and non-political parties of the Qaumi dynasty under one banner. Allama Shafi came to the discussion on April 5, 2013 by staging a siege of Dhaka and a demonstration in Shapla Chattar in the capital demanding 13 points. From then on, he became the headline of the news by speaking on various topics. On September 17, 2020, students at Darul Uloom Hathazari Madrasa started a movement demanding the resignation of Ahmed Shafi and the expulsion of his son Anas Madani on various charges. Ahmed Shafi, who was in the madrassa during the upheaval, became ill and was rushed to Chittagong Medical College Hospital by ambulance from Hathazari Madrasa. He was admitted to the Azgar Ali Hospital near the camp and died at night at the age of 105.
