Maulana Sultan Ahmed, 50, a muezzin of the Mosque of the Sylhet Civil Surgeon’s Office, fell ill and fell on the road after the Azan of Johar on Sunday. Although he was lying on the road until twelve thirty, no one came to help him on suspicion of being infected with coronavirus. He died this afternoon after a long fall on the street in front of the Civil Surgeon’s Office.

Witnesses said hundreds of people lined up in front of the Sylhet Civil Surgeon’s Office this afternoon. There the Corona test was being recorded for those who went abroad. Maulana Sultan Ahmed, the mosque muezzin of the Sylhet Civil Surgeon’s Office, was lying on the street in front of the office near them at the time.

After the Azan of Johar, when he suddenly fell ill and fell on the road, he repeatedly called the people around him. But no one came forward on suspicion of being infected with corona. Civil Surgery officials and employees were not aware of the matter at the beginning.

About an hour later, Sushil Mohanty, a security guard from the Civil Surgeon’s Office, took him to Osmani Medical College Hospital with the help of some people. Maulana Sultan Ahmed breathed his last shortly after being taken to Osmani Hospital in a GNC autorickshaw.

Maulana Sultan is known to have been the muezzin of the mosque for about 20-22 years. He had suffered from high blood pressure for a long time. Maulana Sultan, father of two sons and a daughter, lives in Kendua upazila of Netrokona. He lived on the premises of the Office of the Civil Surgeon and his family members lived in Netrokona.

Sylhet’s civil surgeon, Premananda Mandal, said: “He fell on the road. As soon as the matter came to our attention, arrangements were made to send him to the hospital.
