A truck driver has been sentenced to six years and six months in rigorous prison and a court fined Taka 20,000 for killing a policeman in a traffic accident in Feni.
Feni Superior Judicial Magistrate on Sunday. The verdict of the case was announced in the Zakir Hossain court.
Court bench clerk. Zakir Hossain said that members of the Feni Highway Police Outpost regularly patrolled the Dhaka-Chittagong Highway around 2.30pm on January 20, 2016. At that time, a truck bound for Chittagong (Jessore T 11-28) struck a police van from behind. The truck with the van lost control and fell down the road.
Later, the locals took four wounded policemen to the Feni General Hospital, where the doctor on duty pronounced an officer named Rafiqul Islam dead.
SI Ramiz Uddin Sarkar filed a charge sheet in court on May 16 of the same year after ASI Masud Bhuiyan filed a case against him. The court delivered its verdict on Sunday after 10 witnesses testified.
The verdict sentenced the defendant truck driver Alamgir Hossain to 3 years in severe prison under article 279 and another 3 months in prison for failing to pay a fine of 5,000 taka.
At the same time, he was sentenced to 2 years in prison under Article 336, 3 months in prison without pay and a fine of 5,000 Tk, 3 years in prison under Article 304, 6 months in prison without pay for non-payment of the fine. 10,000 Tk and 6 months in prison under article 426.
According to the court, the defendant Alamgir Hossain is the son of Abdus Samad from Naldanga village in Jhenaidah. He escapes on bail after his arrest.
