The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested Abdul Malek, the driver of the Department of Health transport group. After arresting him on charges of illegal weapons, counterfeit bill trading, extortion, and terrorist activities, RAB says they have found huge assets from this third-class employee.
Following Malek’s arrest, the RAB said two of his seven-story buildings, a 10-story building under construction, land, a cattle ranch, and a large amount of money were found anonymously deposited in various banks. The value of its assets is over one hundred million rupees.
Abdul Malek was arrested in a seven-story building in the Bamnartek area of Turag around 3:15 pm on Sunday. According to the RAB, they seized a foreign pistol, a magazine, five rounds of ammunition, a counterfeit Bengali Rs 1.5 lakh, a laptop and a mobile phone.
The RAB Director of Law and Media, Lieutenant. Colonel Ashiq Billah told the media that Abdul Malek, a driver and third-class employee of the health department’s transportation group, passed eighth class. He joined the first Savar Health Project in 1982 as a driver. After four years he joined the department’s transportation group. Before his arrest, he was the driver of the transportation group of the Health Education Department in the delegation. He has become the owner of a huge wealth of ordinary people showing fear.
Health Department officials trusted Malek. The RAB has come to know that it has become the owner of a great deal of wealth due to its relationship with interested persons.
In response to a question, Ashiq Billah said: “Initially, I knew that he is the owner of a property worth hundreds of million rupees.” Malek initially said that he had earned money in favor of higher authorities on behalf of lobbying in various departments, as well as the transfer of trade in the health department.
