A young woman admitted to the Saturia Upazila Health Complex with fever and body aches was allegedly raped inside the hospital. The girl was raped on September 11. Nine days after the incident, on September 19, the hospital authorities formed a seven-member investigative committee.
It has been reported that a boy in the hospital ward raped the girl. After trying to cover up the incident, the investigative committee was formed after 9 days under pressure from the locals. It was learned that CCTV cameras have been installed throughout the hospital. The victim’s family claimed that the rapist could be identified by looking at the day’s images on the hospital’s CC camera.

According to family sources of the young woman, the victim was admitted to the Saturia Hospital on September 3 with a fever. On the night of September 11, the nurses said that he would be discharged from the hospital on September 12 if he recovers. She was raped by a young man in the hospital around 11pm that night. When the girl was knocked unconscious and bloody at one point, the rapist left her on the veranda of the hospital and fled. That same night, the doctor referred the girl to the 250-bed Manikganj General Hospital.
The victim’s father said that his wife and I did not recognize the rapist. The women’s ward of the hospital has closed-circuit television cameras. If you see the images from that camera, you can recognize the rapist.
Ashraful Alam, UNO from Saturia, said that the rape incident of a young woman who came for treatment was disgusting and reprehensible. There is a lack of safety for patients if these incidents occur within the hospital. Hospital authorities cannot avoid liability if such incidents occur. The authorities should investigate the matter. If someone is guilty, they must be handed over to the law.
Saturia Police Officer in Charge (CO) Matiar Rahman Mia said the girl’s family did not file a complaint for fear of public embarrassment.
