Dhaka: Majnu, the only defendant in the case of raping a Dhaka University (DU) student in Kurmitola, the capital, has cried on the court premises. The father of the victim and the plaintiff have testified in court.

After testifying on Sunday (September 20), Majnu began to cry when he was detained by the Seventh Court for the Suppression of Abuse of Women and Children on the sixth floor of the former District Judges Court building.

During the plaintiff’s testimony in this case, no one except the attorney involved in the case was allowed to enter the court. However, it is known that Majnu kept crying even while standing on the bench during the court.

According to judicial sources, at one point Majnu, who was in the dock, began to speak loudly. Police personnel dedicated to security must rush to handle it. Then he kept asking the judge for food. He said, ‘I haven’t eaten since last night. He bought food for me. I will not go to jail, I will go to my mother. He also screamed that he was not guilty. At one point during the testimony, Majnu lay down on the fence.

Later in the afternoon, when he was taken out of the courtroom, Majnu continued to cry. However, Dhaka Metropolitan Attorney General Abdullah Abu said that these screams were his performance. She cries and seeks mercy. Your tears will have no effect on the judgment.

There are 21 state witnesses in this case. The testimony in the case began with the plaintiff’s testimony. The case is also scheduled to be signed on Monday.

After getting off the college bus at the Kurmitola stop around 7 p.m. on January 5 this year, an unidentified person took the girl to a nearby location. There she was raped and physically abused unconscious.

When he regained consciousness around 10 a.m., he found himself in a secluded place. From there, he reached his destination in a CNG autorickshaw and was taken to the DMCH emergency department after midnight. Later he returned home with hospital treatment.

Majnu, who was arrested in the case, delivered a confessional statement to the court on January 16 under Section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure. In his statement, he said he was alone in the incident.

On March 17, the investigating officer in the case, DB inspector Abu Bakar Siddique Majnu, filed an indictment in court against him as the sole defendant. Majnu has become the only defendant on the charge sheet. With the charge sheet, 20 posters have been sent that include the victim’s clothes and a mobile phone.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Nivana Khair Jesse ordered the transfer of the case to the Seventh Court for the Suppression of Abuse of Women and Children on the day the charge sheet was presented as the case was ready for trial as it was only one defendant was arrested. The trial began on August 26 with the formation of charges against Asami Majnoor, the only defendant in the case.
