He said that the Ministry of Commerce, through the Bangladesh Trade Corporation (TCB), has taken the initiative to import onions in bulk and sell them on the open market at affordable prices. For those who cannot afford to buy from truck sales, TCB, in collaboration with e-commerce, has arranged to deliver onions at affordable prices. TCB’s ‘Onion Relief At Home’ program started today.
He spoke as a keynote guest at the inaugural feature of TCB’s “Sitting at Home Comfort Onion” program on Zoom Platform, hosted by the Ministry of Commerce and E-Commerce on Sunday (September 20).

The idea of ​​selling onions through e-commerce is new, in which case there may be some problems. We will not stop, solve the problem and move on. There is a sufficient stock of national and imported onions in the country. India has already allowed the export of 25,000 metric tons of onions. They have started to enter Bangladesh. The Indian government is expected to allow the export of another 10,000 metric tons of onions. Onion imports from Myanmar and Turkey have started.
It should be noted that the government has taken this program to prevent the increase in the price of onion and to get onion in e-commerce from middle-class buyers. Initially, 3 kg of onion will be sold at a price of Tk 36 through 5 e-commerce companies in the country. Later, the number of establishments and the quantity of onions will be increased.
