Britain, France and Germany have opposed a new US embargo on Iran. The United States has set September 20 as the deadline for the blockade. The previous block will be reimposed during this period. But the three European powers say that any decision to reimpose a blockade would be illegal. They made it clear last Friday.
Britain, France and Germany said on the same day that the UN’s relaxation of the blockade on Iran would continue after September 20. All three European countries have told the UN Security Council that they have worked tirelessly to reach a nuclear deal and are committed to doing so. Britain, France and Germany have spoken on behalf of Iran, but the administration of US President Donald Trump has not commented on the report.
Washington has been pushing for a new embargo against Iran since August. They have adopted a controversial strategy to enforce the UN blockade of Iran. However, if the blockade is lifted, the arms embargo on Iran will continue. Less than a week after the United States took such an initiative, the UN Security Council rejected their initiative.
He noted that the 15 members of the Security Council lacked consensus on the US proposal. In 2016, US President Donald Trump unilaterally withdrew from the Iran nuclear deal. As a result, more than a dozen countries on the Security Council feel they have no legitimacy to impose a new embargo.
