A letter sent to the president of the United States, Donald Trump, found a deadly poison called raisins. The US media quoted officials as saying on Saturday.

The letter was seized before it reached the White House earlier this week, CNN reported, citing law enforcement officials who declined to be identified.

There is known to be a separate office for examination before any letters sent to the White House are delivered there. Authorities said the matter was caught there.

There was no immediate comment from the Trump administration.

The BBC reports that the deadly poison called raisins found in the letter inside the envelope was made from castor oil seeds. When ingested, inhaled, or injected, it causes dizziness, nausea, and vomiting. There is no cure for raisin poisoning. When it enters the body, a person dies within 36 to 72 hours.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, or CDC, say that raisins are so toxic that a few drops of salt can kill an adult.
