After the Indian government stopped onion exports, truckloads of onions, which had been stuck for five days in a row, began to enter Healy’s land port. On the first day, 246 metric tons of onions were imported in 11 trucks. Today, around 3:30 pm on Saturday, 11 onion trucks crossed the Zero Point gate from India and entered Healy Port.
Wholesalers from different parts of the country have flocked to the port area with the news of onion imports. However, importers are concerned about the quality of the onions. Meanwhile, the price of onion has dropped by Rs 20 per kg in the local retail market due to the arrival of onions from India.
The public relations officer of the port of Healy Panama, Sohrab Hossain Pratap Mallick, said that the Indian government had stopped onion exports last Monday for no reason. As a result, a truck loaded with hundreds of onions, which had previously been tendered, got stuck inside India. After meeting with merchants from the two countries, trucks loaded with onions began to enter the port this afternoon. I am making arrangements to quickly release the onions arriving at the port to keep the market in the country normal. So that traders are not harmed.
The importer Saiful Islam told Kaler Kanth that the quality of the onions has deteriorated. Traders are in trouble because onions are going to waste. 5 to 6 metric tons of onions have been wasted on each car. The onions are sold at Rs 40-45 per kg on the wholesale market.
