A murder case has been filed in connection with the recovery of the bodies of two cousins in the central Ganeshpur area of the city of Rangpur. Mominul Islam, father of the murdered Jannatul Mawa, presented the case to the Kotwali Police Station of the Rangpur Metropolitan Police on Saturday. Police arrested one person in the case. The Rangpur Metropolitan Police Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (DB), Uttam Prasad Pathak, confirmed the matter.
He said police recovered the body of Sumaiya Akhter Meem (18) from the Ganeshpur area on Friday afternoon while hanging with a fan inside the house and the body of her cousin Jannatul Mawar (14) was lying on the ground. Mominul Islam, the father of the late Jannatul Mawa, filed a lawsuit against the deceased this morning.
Mentioning that they are trying to find out the secret with utmost importance, he said that his relatives have already been questioned along with the seizure of several posters. We are conducting research activities considering various aspects.
Meanwhile, after recovering the body, various intelligence agencies took to the field to unravel the mystery. Meem and Mawa’s relatives were taken to the police station for questioning on Friday night. Furthermore, a man named Mahfuzar Rahman Rifat from the city’s North Babankha was arrested in the Lahirirhat area of Rangpur Sadar Upazila that same night.
An official involved in the investigation said that the arrested Rifat Mulatol Medinatul Uloom Kamil M. Alim from this madrasa is a freshman. The late Meem also passed the entrance examination of that madrasa this time. The late Meem had a love affair with Rifat. Initially it is believed that the murder occurred on the basis of love. He is being interrogated.
Meanwhile, the bodies of the two sisters were handed over to their families on Saturday afternoon after an autopsy. Jannatul Mawa was a seventh grade student at the local Taibur Rahman High School, a heroic freedom fighter.
The Rangpur Kotwali OC Abdur Rashid Metropolitan Police Station said a murder case had been recorded in the incident. The case has made acceptable progress. Details will be announced later at a press conference.
