The vacancy of Amir Allama Ahmad Shafi from Hefazat-e-Islam will be filled soon, said Junaid Babungari, the organization’s secretary general.
He made the announcement to mike janaza at the Hathazari mosque on Saturday afternoon.
Junaid Babungari said: “Allama Shafi Huzur is our mentor. We are praying for him. And you know, there is no conflict between Hefazat-e-Islam. With the death of Allama Shafi Hazur, the post of Emir of Hefazat-e-Islam became vacant. We will convene the Hifazat-e-Islam conference as soon as possible after Hazur’s janaza (Allama Shafi) burial. At the conference, we will unanimously elect the Emir of Hefazat-e-Islam.
It is worth mentioning that Hefazat-e-Islam Bangladesh was formed on January 19, 2010 at the Ulema Conference held at the Darul Uloom Hathazari Auditorium. Ahmed Shafi’s founder, Amir, was nominated. Then, in 2011, under his leadership, the organization carried out a program in Chittagong against the women’s development policy. At that time there was a movement in Dhaka under the leadership of Shaykhul Hadith Allama Azizul Haque, Mufti Fazlul Haque Amini. With the death of these two leaders in 2012, a kind of lack of leadership was created among the scholars of Dhaka.
Allama Ahmad Shafi breathed his last while undergoing treatment at the capital’s Azgar Ali hospital on Friday night. He had long suffered from geriatric weakness, as well as diabetes, high blood pressure, and shortness of breath. He was buried at the Hathazari Madrasa facility after Johar on Saturday.
