The truck driver was beaten to death after chasing a truck for 16 km after the death of a goat in a traffic accident in Puthia, Rajshahi. The deceased was identified as Abu Taleb, 40. He is a resident of the Jhalmaliya area in Puthia. Abu Taleb died around 3 am on Saturday. After receiving the news, the Puthia police recovered the body of the deceased and organized an autopsy. Five people have been arrested in the incident.
Police said driver Abu Taleb was unloading goods from a truck in the Bhabaniganj area of Bagmara around 8 pm on Friday. At that moment, two goats fell in the middle of the road and fell under the wheels of the truck. Two goats were crushed to death by the truck.
Puthia OC Rezaul Islam Police Station said the incident took place in the Shibanjit area of Bhabaniganj in Bagmara upazila. Two Golam Mostafa goats from the area died after being crushed by a truck wheel. Golam Mostafa, the owner of the goat, then chased the truck with his men on 10-15 motorcycles. They chased him for at least 18 km and reached Basupara de Puthia upazila around 8:15 pm and arrested truck driver Abu Taleb.
At that point, they beat him and left him seriously injured and left. Later, the locals rescued him and admitted him to the Puthia Upazila Health Center. The truck driver died around 3:30 a.m. Saturday while receiving treatment there. A murder case will be filed at the Puthia Police Station in this incident.
Citing eyewitnesses, the CO further said that truck driver Abu Taleb tried to escape the truck to save his life. But the heretics chased the driver and hit him randomly. He was seriously injured. He later died.
OC Rezaul Islam said the body was recovered. Legal action will be taken in this regard. Strict action will be taken against those involved in the incident. Five people have been detained for questioning in the incident.
