The National Technical Advisory Committee on Covid-19 has recommended that the government deposit money in advance to get the coronavirus vaccine quickly.
Chairman of the Prof Committee. The suggestion was made yesterday at the 19th online meeting chaired by Mohammad Sahidullah.
This information has been reported in a notification on Friday.
The meeting discussed the measures taken by the Ministry of Health and the Department of Health regarding the covid vaccine. The committee commended the government for its sincere efforts in preparing for the rapid collection and distribution of vaccines and suggested that several steps be taken to ensure these things.
According to the committee, all the countries of the world are in a kind of competition for the collection of vaccines. Several countries have also deposited money in advance to buy the vaccine. Also, there is a risk of receiving the Gavin vaccine too late. In this situation, Bangladesh also needs to reserve the vaccine by depositing money in advance.
Bangladesh does not have the required cold chain system for some vaccines. In the case of vaccine selection, the issue can be taken into consideration or a cold chain can be organized at the specified temperature.
According to the committee, efforts should be made to communicate with multiple sources and collect vaccines without working for a single vaccine. Especially in countries where the government is involved in vaccine development, they should be contacted.
Vaccine delivery activities must be formally conducted after the vaccine is received and the vaccine implementation plan now needs to be finalized. There should also be arrangements for monitoring adverse reactions to the vaccine after the vaccine is administered.
It has also been suggested to have a representative from Nighttag and the National Advisory Committee on the Special Vaccine Committee.
The committee said vaccine trials should include organizations that are suitable and trained in trial activities. Government institutions such as Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University, IEDCR, etc. can be associated with ICDDRB.
It was reported at the meeting that Covid-19 is currently being tested by a PCR test, the amount of which is comparatively less. Increasing the amount of Covid-19 testing is likely to detect more Covid-19 infections. To this end, the National Advisory Committee has repeatedly recommended antigen and antibody testing. The Ministry of Health has also taken various measures. The principle of antigen testing in diagnosis has already been decided.
He said a policy and implementation plan on antigen and antibody testing are in the final stages of approval. In districts where initial stage PCR testing facilities are not available and the antigen testing plan has been submitted to the specialized hospital. The antigen test kit verification process is in progress. However, it is noted that the World Health Organization has not yet approved such kits.
The National Advisory Committee believes that covid-19 testing activities in three methods (PCR, antigen and antibody test) will play a very important role in dealing with the covid-19 situation. Now is the time to work on serosurveillance, which also requires the introduction of antibody tests.
According to the committee, the number of Covid-19 exams should be further increased by eliminating the reasons why Covid-19 exams have been reduced. Doing so will provide a clear picture of the control of the global epidemic, as well as the status of the infection. Steps should be taken to raise public awareness among the people to increase the Covid-19 test. The list of sample collection booths must be displayed in public.
In addition, efforts should be made to increase the quality of sample collection and analysis. It is necessary to arrange automatic extraction to speed up the test. The Department of Health proposes a joint meeting of the Laboratory Management Committee / Laboratory Subcommittee of the National Advisory Committee with the team to discuss all issues in detail and implement the decision quickly.
According to the committee, both healthcare workers and their families are at risk of getting Kovid-19 infection due to their duties at the hospital. The meeting considered that it was necessary to provide safe accommodation for health workers for the purpose of quarantining them after health workers completed their duties at the hospital.
Among health workers who have passed away, a suitable list should be prepared and sent to the ministry to ensure receipt of grants. The list is being prepared by a subcommittee headed by the president of the National Technical Advisory Committee and physicians, nurses, medical technologists and other health workers are encouraged to prepare it with the participation of the appropriate department.
The government has already hired medical technologists who have worked on the Covid-19 sample test. The hiring process did not include volunteer medical technologists working in various organizations. The National Technical Advisory Committee is making recommendations to the government to seriously consider his appointment.
There is a kind of laxity among people regarding compliance with hygiene rules in the prevention of Covid-19. Awareness-raising activities need to be intensified to sensitize the public and ensure the active participation of people in the prevention of COVID-19. The Department of Health has suggested a rapid implementation of the mask campaign. The video, made for publicity purposes, expressed the opinion that personalities from different professions should be featured at the meeting.
Durga Puja is the largest religious festival in the Hindu community, taking place in mid-October. It was suggested at the meeting to celebrate Durga Puja on a limited scale and according to the hygiene rules in case of a Kovid-19 epidemic.
The National Technical Advisory Committee also said that it is necessary to prepare a code of conduct for Durga Puja in collaboration with the Department of Health, while maintaining social distance.
