Dhaka: 25,000 metric tons of onions are arriving in Bangladesh from India. On Friday (September 18), India approved the export of onions.
Diplomatic sources in Delhi have confirmed the information.
According to sources, the Foreign Trade Department of the Indian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Industry in a joint meeting approved the export of 25,000 metric tons of onions to Bangladesh. Subsequently, considering the situation, you can increase the export by another 10,000 tons.
On September 14 this year, the onions suddenly stopped arriving from India. However, a circular signed by Amit Yadav, director general of the foreign trade department of the Indian Ministry of Commerce and Industry, said that all kinds of onion exports would remain suspended until new orders were issued under Section 3 of India’s Foreign Trade Act 1992. However, onion crushed, powdered and any other condition will continue to be exported. The matter became clear after the Indian Ministry of Commerce and Industry issued the notice.
After the export of onions to Bangladesh was stopped, diplomatic activities started from Dhaka and Delhi. Dhaka asked Delhi to reverse the decision.
Approximately 2.3 million tonnes of onions are produced in Bangladesh each year. However, 4 to 5 tons of onions are wasted. And every year the demand in Bangladesh is 3 million tons. Every year about 1 million tons of onions have to be imported. And 90 percent of imports come from India.
