According to RAB sources, since 2000, Gangchil’s forces have emerged through terrorist activities in and around Aminbazar in Savar. The force was called Gangchil Bahini because it carried out terrorist activities in flooded areas most of the time. When the terrorist Anar died in 2016, his ally Salauddin took over as head of Gangchil’s forces. Under his leadership, terrorist activities resumed. The force was mainly involved in extortion, drug trafficking, robbery, murder and other activities in the Aminbazar, Gabtali, Bhakurta, Kaundia, Beribadh, Keraniganj and Mohammadpur areas of the capital. Salauddin and his two accomplices were later arrested in a special operation in the area on the basis of secret information.

From them, a foreign pistol, a magazine, two rounds of ammunition, 190 grams of heroin, 500 pieces of yaba and domestic weapons were recovered.

The detainees participated in the death of a deputy inspector from the Savar police station in 2002, the death of two RAB members in 2006, the looting of the Diabari police post and the looting of naval patrols in the Aminbazar area.

According to the RAB, the force also carried out robberies of sand-laden trawlers and brick shipments on the Turag and Buriganga rivers and regularly extorted money from hundreds of brick factories in the Amin Bazar area. Apart from this, it is known that the Gangchil Bahini members attacked the influential people in the area and demanded a large amount of ransom and if they did not pay the ransom, they kidnapped them and demanded ransom. The main activities of this force were extortion, murder, robbery, drug trafficking, kidnapping and the spread of the dominance of a single umbrella on both sides of the Turag and Buriganga rivers.

Ziaur Rahman, Senior ASP of RAB-4, said that during preliminary questioning, the defendants had always carried out their activities in and around the river and admitted that they used to travel by river most of the time. Also, his vehicle was a twin-engine trawler. After presenting a case in this regard, the defendants were handed over to the Savar police station.

It should be noted that several cases of murders, weapons, robbery, extortion and confrontations against each member of this force are pending.
