Padma bridge rail connecting line error, instruction to correct layout

The Padma Bridge Rail Link Project Authority has been requested to review the design due to construction defects. Officials on the main bridge project say the height of the railway will cause the truck to stall when driving up the bridge by road.

The Cabinet Division issued the directive after authorities from the Padma Multipurpose Bridge Project (PMBP) expressed concern. The design of the viaducts on both sides of the bridge has been reported to present similar problems.

The PMBP authorities have demanded that the faulty design be rectified since there is very little space on both sides of the width and height considering international standards for the national highway.

The Padma Bridge Rail Link Project (PBRLP) has designed the viaducts.

Officials on the main bridge project say that if the railway viaduct is built according to the current design, the trucks will not be able to move. The horizontal boundaries established in the PBRLP design, if implemented, will narrow the roads connecting the longest bridges in the country.

Meanwhile, the authorities of the railway connection project alleged that there was a problem with the pillars numbered 25 (1) and 25 (2). Your contractor is now reviewing the design. Additionally, officials are now consulting with experts from BUET to find alternative solutions to the shrinking space.

In mid-July, PBRPL authorities halted construction of the pillar in question amid opposition from the main bridge authority. However, PBRPL authorities have stated that this will not affect the overall cost or schedule of the project.

Golam Fakhruddin Ahmed Chowdhury, Director, Padma Bridge Rail Link Project (PBRLP), Bangladesh Railway The daily starK said: “The Cabinet Division has given us some instructions to review the design. We are following them.

The Bangladesh Bridge Authority (BBA) is implementing the Padma Bridge project at a cost of Tk 30,193 crore to connect the southwestern part of the country with the capital through road and rail lines. In addition, Bangladesh Railway is working on the implementation of the 189 km railway line (Dhaka to Jessore) ‘Padma Bridge Rail Link Project’ on the Padma Bridge under construction at a cost of 39.248 million taka.

Trains will use the lower deck of the 6.15km double-decker bridge and vehicles will use the upper road. Since the railway viaducts on both sides of the bridge require long slopes, these are the bridges.

The road connecting the two sides will pass.

According to international standards, the height of the track from the bottom of the viaduct should be 5.6 meters. So that all types of vehicles can move. In addition, the standard width of a national highway should be 15.50 meters.

Director of the PMBP, Shafiqul Islam The daily star“However, according to its design (PBRPL), the height and width of the railway viaduct on both sides of the bridge are less than required,” he said. They don’t follow the standard. I have informed the authorities. ‘

Under the current design, if the railroad viaducts are built, large trucks won’t be able to use the bridge, said Belayet Hossain, BBA’s chief executive.

“They (PBRLP) have been asked to review the design,” he said.

The PBRLP held a meeting on August 19 to resolve the problem and gave some details of the problem in a letter sent to the concerned authorities.

The road connecting the Padma Bridge will pass under pillars 25 (1) and 25 (2) of the railway at the Jajira point of the bridge.

Officials from the main bridge project said they asked the contractor to stop work (July 19) when the rail link project contractor dug the road to lay the piers. At that time I also wanted documents on the layout of height, width, and connection points.

According to the letter, the contractor stopped the work. These documents were sent on behalf of PBRLP.

The letter stated that the height limit between the pillar and the connecting road is 5.51 meters and the distance between the two pillars is 9.75 meters. The letter further stated that the width of the connecting road is 9.38 meters.

According to the PMBP authorities, these vertical and horizontal limits are not enough. It should be 6 meters high and 15.5 meters wide.

The letter said that the rail link project was designed in 2015 with comments from the BBA. The issue was discussed at a meeting of the interface committee of both projects.

The work of placing the piles of 25 (1) and 25 (2) pillars and the construction of all the pillars from 26 to 48 has already been completed. Therefore, it is not possible to change the level of the railway.

Therefore, the PBRPL authorities suggested reducing the level of the connecting road while keeping the height of the viaduct as it is. However, the PMBP said the design was not acceptable at all.

PBRLP Director Golam Fakhruddin Ahmed Chowdhury said: “This is not a problem. We have received a necessary offer. According to him, we are solving it now.

He further said: ‘There was an error in the case of pillar number 25. That is being fixed now.

However, PMBP director Shafiqul Islam said: “Our objection is the design of the viaducts on both sides of the bridge and their height and width limits.”

When asked if the 21-pillar design (nos. 26-48) needs to be changed and restructured, Fakhruddin replied: “No.” We only need to change the design of Abutment No. 25. There is no problem with other abutments.

He added that the contractor has been instructed to review the design. It may take a maximum of one month to do so.

Regarding the objections of the BBA and PMBP authorities about the gauge, Fakhruddin said: “We will try to divert the road.”

When asked if the PMBP would accept the proposal, he said: “We will discuss the matter. We are discussing this with the experts from BUET. Of course we will find a solution.

He stated that it would not affect the total cost and duration of the project.

BBA CEO Belayet Hossain, Ministry of Railways Secretary Selim Reza, and senior officials from both projects will visit the project site today.

BBA CEO Belayet Hossain said: “Instructions have already been given to solve the problem. We will go to see how they can be implemented.
