Harsimrat resigns from Union Ministry in protest of anti-peasant bill

Harsimrat Badal resigned from the Food Processing Ministry in protest of the Center’s agriculture bill. She wrote on Twitter: “I resigned as Union Minister in protest of anti-peasant laws and ordinances. I am proud to be a sister and daughter of farmers.

Only Harsirat Badal of Akali Dal got the ministry. He resigns but does not withdraw his support. Harsimrat’s husband and party chief Sukhbir Singh Badal said Akali would support the government from outside. However, opposition to policies against farmers will continue. Punjab’s Chief Minister Amarendra Singh Badal called Harsimrat’s resignation a political stunt. According to him, Harsimrat resigned late. There will be no profit.

The center claims that the new bill will bring major reforms in agriculture. This bill is an alternative to the 3 June ordinances. As a result, farmers will improve. It will be convenient to market vegetables. The Akali Dal initially supported the agriculture bill. But when farmers in Punjab and Haryana began to protest, they ducked.
