An army statement said a Syntax tank was found in the Karewa area around 8 a.m. this morning. A total of 417 packages of explosives were found in the tank. Each package weighed 125 grams. A total of 52 kg of explosives were recovered.
Later, a search of the area found 50 detonators from another tank, the military said.
The area where the explosives were recovered is very close to the road and only 9 km from the site of the Pulwama attack in 2019. More than 40 soldiers were killed in a suicide attack on a security convoy on February 14.
Security forces cordoned off the area. An investigation has been launched into who stored the explosives. Officers from the police administration and the army came to the scene. A few days later, the Indian Air Force attacked the militant Jaish-e-Mohammed base in Balakot.

The central government has recognized that security along the Jammu and Kashmir border has not been fully compromised. According to the center, the militants have been able to infiltrate at least 111 times in the last year. The Interior Minister of State, G Kisan Reddy, presented the information at the Lok Sabha on Tuesday. He added that 137 militants were killed in clashes with the security forces between March and August of this year.
According to the Center, there have been 16 infiltrations by militants in Jammu and Kashmir from August 2019 to July 2020. In 111 cases the intruders have been successful.
