The Madrasa and Technical Education Department sent a letter to the general director and head of the madrasa in Hathazari on Thursday.
There, it was said, the books department of the Qawmi madrasas was allowed to initiate and conduct examinations under certain conditions during the epidemic.
“But due to non-compliance with the conditions imposed, Al Jamiatul Ahlia Darul Uloom Muinul Islam Madrasa in Hathazari upazila of Chittagong District was declared closed until the old order was issued.”

All kinds of educational institutions in the country have been closed since March 16 due to the coronavirus epidemic. The government has reported that the holiday will continue until October 3.
However, at the request of the Qawmi madrasas, they were allowed to take the bachelor’s and master’s examinations at the end of last August in accordance with “hygiene rules”. However, like all other institutions, Alia Madrasas are still closed.
Al-Jamiatul Ahlia Darul Uloom Moinul Islam Madrasa in Hathazari is one of the oldest and largest Qawmi madrasas in Bangladesh found in the Deoband curriculum. More than seven thousand students study there.
The Managing Director of this Madrasa (Muhtamim) Shah Ahmad Shafi is also the Chairman of the Board of the Qawmi Madrasa of Bangladesh Befaqul Madarisil Arabia Bangladesh (BEFAC). Shafi, more than 95 years old, is the supreme leader of Hefazat-e-Islam, which has been campaigning for the establishment of an Islamic state.
Ahmed Shafi, who has been its longtime CEO, is called by the country’s Qaumi students as “the great lord.” However, due to Shafi’s age, there was a community dispute over the authority of this madrasa.

Babunagari’s dispute with Ahmed Shafi’s supporters became public after Junaid Babungari was removed from the post of deputy director and Sheikh Ahmed was appointed at a meeting of the madrasa’s shura committee last June. According to locals, there was a protest against Shafi’s son at the madrasa on Wednesday.
Police and eyewitnesses told reporters that hundreds of students suddenly began protesting inside the madrassa on Wednesday afternoon. They shouted slogans demanding the resignation of the deputy director of Madrasa (Education) Anas Madani. At that time, they also filed six lawsuits.
Agitated students also vandalized Anas Madani’s room and Junaid Babungari’s Sheikh Ahmed’s room. At one point, they took up positions on the Chittagong-Khagrachhari road in front of the madrasa and the police removed them.
