England set a goal of 303 for victory over Australia at Old Trafford in the third ODI. Batting first, they lost 8 wickets in 50 overs and scored 302 runs. Johnny Bairstow made 112 of 127 balls. On the other hand, Sam Billings made 56 runs from 57 balls. Adam Jampa and Mitchell Starc took 3 wickets each for Australia.

Chasing the goal of 303 runs, Australia reached the goal by losing 6 wickets with two balls remaining. The 212-run partnership between Alex Carey and Glenn Maxwell helped Australia win the match. Glenn Maxwell made 108 of 90 balls. Alex Carey made 107 of 114 balls. Chris Oakes and Joe Root took two wickets each for England.
