Police arrested a young man while trying to rob a bank in the metropolis of Gazipur by threatening him with a homemade bomb. The incident took place at noon Wednesday at the private Prime Bank located at the Shapla Mansion in Chandna Chowrasta in the city.
The detainee was identified as 32-year-old Abu Bakar Hawlader, son of the late Sekandar Ali Hawlader from Bisharighata village under Morelganj police station in Bagerhat. He is a laid off Belmont Gamernt worker in the Boardbazar area of the Gachha Police Station in the metropolis of Gazipur. He used to rent a house in the Battala road area of Boardbazar.

An 11-member bomb disposal team from Dhaka’s Unit Against Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) arrived at the scene in the afternoon and defused the bomb.
He added that the bomb was made with an improvised electronic device (IED) consisting of three tubes. This is called a tube pump. Steps were subsequently taken to defuse the bomb. The detainee is being questioned. The whole matter will be known after an investigation.
Meanwhile, hundreds of people gathered at the busiest Chandna junction in the city when news spread that the bank had been bombed and demanded money from the manager. Police temporarily blocked traffic on the Dhaka-Tangail Highway. A large number of law enforcement officers surrounded the area.
