Russell and Sumon, the other two defendants in the case, were sentenced to seven years in rigorous prison and a fine of 20,000 taka.

On the night of February 8, 2014, Johnny was taken to the Pallabi Police Station and tortured by a man named Billal in the Iranian camp in Mirpur-11 sector. He was rushed to the National Heart Foundation Hospital in Dhaka, where doctors pronounced him dead.
Johnny’s brother, Imtiaz Hossain Rocky, brought the case under the ‘Prevention of Torture and Death in Police Custody Act’ in the Dhaka Metropolitan Court of Judges for Sessions on August 8 of that year.
Following the verdict, the Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge said: “Three friends of the victim are eyewitnesses to the case. They testified in court that the victim was spat in his face when he asked for water during torture. It is not just a violation of the law, it is a serious violation of human rights. “
