The Civil Service Ministry issued an order on Wednesday indicating that the President had appointed him to the position on the condition of post-retirement leave and suspension of related benefits.

He will be the President of the Commission from the date of assumption of office until the next five years or until the age of 65, whichever occurs first.

Former Education Secretary Sohrab replaces Mohammad Sadiq as PSC President. The incumbent Sadiq’s term ends on Thursday.

Sohrab Hossain was appointed as Secretary of the Department of Secondary and Higher Education of the Ministry of Education on December 6, 2016. On January 30, 2019, the government appointed him Senior Secretary.

Previously, he was Rector of the BCS Administration Academy and the APD of the Ministry of Public Administration.

Sohrab, a 1984 BCS Group Administrative Officer, holds a BA (Honors) and MA in Bengali Language and Literature from Dhaka University.

From his time as a student he was involved in various social, cultural and voluntary organizations. At Dhaka University he was a member of the Natyachakra and cultural group.

Sohrab, a life member of the Bangla Academy, was born in 1971 in Chatkhil upazila of Noakhali district.
